Now, the cogs running the drug war machine say they’re not very concerned with marijuana.
This month, the Drug Enforcement Administration released their 2015 National Drug Threat Assessment Summary. The report summarizes the collective feelings from law enforcement personnel towards the various scheduled substances. The findings indicate a statement by law enforcement of a fact that drug policy experts and researchers have known for a long time: compared to other recreational substances, including alcohol, marijuana doesn’t cause that much harm. It’s probably even safer than many people think. And whether you’re worried about potential harms to individuals or to communities, marijuana is very low on the list of recreational substances.

Heroin and meth are considered the number one threat by a large majority of police departments. Let’s compare the two with marijuana for a moment…
Marijuana is scheduled in the same class as heroin and meth. Heroin has effects that can slow a person’s breathing to the point of death with severe and often fatal side effects. Meth causes severe mental and physical crashes, insomnia, dangerous weight loss, increased aggressiveness and irritability and over time may any number of fatal conditions.
The point is…
71% of the nation’s police force state heroin and meth as top priorities. Marijuana is barely a blip on the radar. Change is around the corner. Science, presidential candidates, the people, and, now, law enforcement are saying what all of us already know – marijuana is good. It always has been and always will be.
Free the weed already.
