Where do the states stack up in the race to legalize marijuana?

In a new 270 page report, titled “The Market for Legal Cannabis Products in the 50 United States,” the states are ranked by likelihood to establish a taxed and regulated cannabis industry within the next year.

Rhode Island and Vermont will most likely be the first two states in the nation to legalize recreational market with legislature.

Some obvious entries into the not-so-likely category include Ohio, Indiana, and Texas.

The report mentions that although California has one of the most promising markets for marijuana legalization there are obstacles preventing further advancement.

An Oasis in the Desert

Arizona was a once barren landscape where the loop 202 ended into nothing. Marijuana, previously stemmed into dry, cracked dirt is flourishing across the national landscape like a blooming flower.

Stop to smell the flowers… They will tell you much about the tidings of the future. Marijuana is a bonafide, legitimate industry providing numerous careers; not jobs, careers. This fact has not gone unnoticed by lawmakers of this nation both on the national and local level.

“With dramatic changes in both public opinion and the legal landscape regarding marijuana, it is clear that future consumption of marijuana in the U.S. will be under a much different legal regime than in the past,” reads a lead-in of the report. “While we do not yet know what this would imply for both state and federal laws, we believe a serious effort to review the available data with numerous indicators could provide us with much better information than what was available in the past.”

What about us? Arizona is a “safe bet” according to the report. Maine, Michigan, Missouri, and Nevada also joined the list. We are likely to see marijuana taxed and regulated in the near future.

How accurate do they feel their report is?
